Chefchaouen

Chefchaouen — Morocco’s Blue Pearl

Tucked into the Rif Mountains, Chefchaouen is instantly recognisable for its medina of blue-washed houses, narrow stepped lanes, and terracotta rooftops. Founded in 1471 as a fortress against Portuguese incursions, it later became a refuge for Andalusian and Jewish exiles — a mixed heritage still visible in its architecture and crafts. Today it is one of Morocco’s most photographed towns and a relaxed base for hiking the surrounding Rif.
