Morocco's daytime desert and city heat gets all the attention, but the temperature swing is dramatic. In the Sahara, nights can drop to near freezing even when the afternoon hit 35°C. Marrakech, Fes, and the Atlas foothills also cool sharply after sunset, especially outside summer.
The fix is simple: pack layers rather than just warm-weather clothes — a fleece or warm jacket, plus a scarf or shemagh, is standard kit for a desert camp evening, not overkill. Riad rooms built around open courtyards also stay cooler at night than a sealed hotel room, so a light layer for sleeping is worth having even in the cities during shoulder seasons (spring and autumn).
